Make Your Own Taco Seasoning Mix

You probably have most of the ingredients on hand already.

And it really is just as simple as putting all of the spices in a bowl, giving it a quick stir, and that’s it.

So I’m not entirely sure what else to say about this.

I mean, I could wax on and on about how this one story from my childhood was brought back to my memory…

While I labored sweating for hours in the kitchen developing this amazing taco seasoning recipe for you…

And how that completely changed my life and my perspective…

But come on, it’s taco seasoning. Ha ha!

It’s fast, simple, easy, and doesn’t include any extra or unwanted preservatives or fillers. (Have you SEEN how many carbs are in the store-bought stuff?!?)

You control the ingredients. And you can tweak them to your liking.

Storing Your Taco Seasoning Mix

I’m writing this for a fairly large batch. The recipe will make about 1 cup + 3 tablespoons (about 16 tablespoons total) of taco seasoning mix. You want enough to keep around so you don’t have to remake this stuff every week, but not enough that it lasts more than about 6 months as the spices will start to lose their flavor.

Just store it in an airtight jar or container out of direct sunlight. (I mean, as beautiful as this stuff is, you really don’t want to display it on your kitchen windowsill…)

If you have an Ikea around, you can store it in some of their glass-top containers that you see in some of the pictures above.

Or if you use taco seasoning a lot and want to keep a bit more of this stuff around, make a double batch and store it in a pint-size mason jar. That’s what you’ll find in my pantry, along with jars of Ranch Dressing Mix and Onion Soup Mix.

"Taco

And if you really want to get fancy, check out these oh-so-useful jar toppers I found on Amazon last week! You use these under the jar ring, and it turns your regular mouth jar into a spice container with a shaker side or a spoon opening!

Whatever storage container you choose, just go make some of this taco seasoning mix. You won’t be disappointed. Now then, it’s time to go forth and eat some tacos! 🙂
