It was a quick trip to Macey’s this week, to stock up on some pork roast and to get a couple rain-check items from last week’s bake sale.
Here’s what I picked up:
(6) pork shoulder [butt] roasts, on sale Buy 1 Get 1 Free (normal price is 2.99/lb, so close to 1.50/lb with sale)
(6) Guittard baking chips, 1.99 ea (from raincheck)
(12) Kraft JetPuffed marshmallows, .69 ea (from raincheck)
fuji apples, .99/lb
granny smith apples, .99/lb
Most of the roasts will be made into freezer meals – BB pork sandwhiches, peach-glazed pork, and probably some Kahlua pork roast as well.
The baking chips and the marshmallows go in my pantry and will be used for various treats during the upcoming holidays. The marshmallows mostly get used in rice krispy cereal treats and they last forever without getting too hard (and if they get a little stiff it doesn’t matter because I’m just melting them down anyway). The baking chips get used in cookies and other things. If you’ll be storing them for longer than 2-3 months, you can put them in a mason jar and vacuum seal the lid on with a FoodSaver and jar attachment, or vacuum seal them into a FoodSaver bag, and they will last for a year or longer! I always stock up on baking chips in the fall when they go on sale for the holiday baking season and get my year’s supply to last me until the next fall.
